After last weekend’s excitement, this week has just three games for the club. The J2s travel to Lansdowne tonight (Friday) at 8pm on their victory lap after winning the league last Saturday. The J4Bs are at home to NUIM Barnhall at 12pm tomorrow afternoon as they look to continue their recent good form. On Sunday, the U21s face Greystones in Lakelands on Sunday at 3pm – a perfect way to clear the heads after watching Ireland trounce France on Saturday evening!
Thursday, 21st February saw the launch of Terenure College RFC’s “Turning on the Lights” project, at the club’s Vision 2020 “Fruits” meeting.
Donal Hyland, President of Terenure College RFC formally launched the project in front of an enthusiastic audience who heard first hand the exciting plans to elevate the club to a whole new level. It was fitting that this event was launched at a Vision 2020 meeting – a group who were instrumental in creating the plan for these facilities in the first place.
The members of Terenure College RFC had unanimously voted for this project in April 2012 and the project will now move forward to the planning stages.
The ambitious project sets out to completely redevelop the club helping it in its ambitions to become one of the country’s leading rugby club destinations. In all, the club plans to completely redevelop its first two pitches, re-laying the first pitch and converting the second to an entirely artificial, all-weather surface. In both cases modern floodlights will also be added allowing nighttime training and evening matches in the future. The project also includes redevelopment of the club’s changing room facilities.
The project is expected to cost in the region of €800,000 and take approximately 4 years to complete – subject to all planning permission and the necessary funds being raised.

The Umbrella Under 17s & Under 15s Rugby Sevens Tournaments
Following the success of the 2012 tournament, the Umbrella Rugby 7s will return on Saturday 2ndMarch 2013 in Terenure College, Dublin. This year we plan to double the size of the tournament, inviting teams from all over Irela
nd and beyond to take part. We will also be hosting an under 15s (second years) tournament alongside the main under 17s (fourth years) competition.
The video below tells you everything you need to know about the competition and where all the proceeds go.
To register your school’s interest in taking part please fill in this form and we will provide you with more details of the tournament. Places are limited so get in touch with us early to avoid disappointment.
Last year’s tournament saw Newbridge College fend off tough competition from Cistercian College Roscrea to be crowned as the overall cup winners, with Blackrock College taking home the plate and Terenure College the shield. Click here to see some photos of the day. No doubt competition will again be fierce to see who will be crowned the 2013 Umbrella 7s Cup winners! In addition to this the Umbrella 7s recently staged two successful tournaments in Toronto Canada.
Like last year this competition is slightly differ
ent to others, as not only will the participants enjoy finishing off their season by playing one of the most exciting brands of rugby and enhancing all the skills used in the 15-a-side game, but it will also help orphaned and trafficked children in Nepal, one of the world’s poorest countries.
In the last number of years 7s rugby has taken off as an international sport, so much so that in 2016, 7s rugby will be in the Olympics. Ireland is currently the only major rugby playing nation that does not have a professional 7s team, and without an organised 7s competition at schools level, the gap is set to grow.
Apart from the rugby aspect, the Umbrella 7s will be supporting the work of The Umbrella Foundation, an Irish charity which has been working with destitute children in Nepal since 2005. With this competition, we foresee Irish youths helping to raise vital funds and awareness for children who, but for Umbrella, would be living in unbearable conditions.
Tenzing gets to grips with rugby in NepalThis tournament has been fully endorsed by the Leinster Schools Committee and by Jamie Heaslip, The Umbrella Foundation’s Patron, who in June 2011 volunteered with Umbrella in Nepal and is an ongoing supporter of the Foundation.

Nine teams in total played and Terenure College RFC would like to thank everyone who took part particularly those from other Clubs.Terenure College will be running a summer event and we are hoping to build on the success of this year for Christmas 2013.
The side pictured is a Casey / Baird family side who caused the shock of the day by running a star studded Clinch / Blackrock side very close in the final game of the day.
A diving tag by Clincher on Robin, age 11, proved the difference between the two sides. A special word of thanks to Paul Clinch for his help in organising the day.
