The SAFE Rugby Level 1 course is specifically targeted at non-medical club and school coaches, players, referees and parents. Following the same key principles as the other levels, it is very user friendly and allows plenty of time to have all of those questions that you had stowed away to be answered by our instructors.
SAFE Rugby has been designed to provide a standardised method of assessment and management of the initial stages of injuries occurring in rugby. Our programme recognises the fact that most people involved in rugby will only deal very occasionally with a significant injury. Our step by step, practical approach will ensure that the participant is confident and competent in looking after all eventualities until professional help arrives.
The SAFE Rugby techniques are adapted from emergency medicine and pre hospital emergency care best practices and are taught by highly experienced and skilled pre hospital care practitioners and senior medical staff from a variety of specialities including anaesthesia, orthopaedics and emergency medicine.
SAFE Rugby courses at all levels include Basic Life Support / Advisory External Defibrillation training and certification by the Irish Heart Foundation as well as a SAFE Rugby certificate from the IRFU, both valid for 2 years. Core skills include the initial approach to an injured player, managing suspected spinal and head injuries, managing fractures and joint injuries and concussion awareness. The instructor / participant ratio is normally 1:6 which allows for plenty of skills practice. The training days are mostly practical in nature and have been extremely well received by all those who have attended.

To become the president of any organisation is always a distinction, but to be given this position in Terenure College RFC is a massive honour and privilege for me and my family. Our club has a great history, and I look forward to upholding all that is great about our club for the upcoming season.
It is with great excitement I look forward to the season ahead. Last year we achieved a lot together, and I know all members look forward to this season with a sense of anticipation, knowing that we can achieve even more. I wish all our teams success on and off the pitch, and I hope all our members can enjoy the coming season.
Can I also offer a sincere Nure welcome to all our visiting teams & supporters. Hospitality is at the centre of our club, and it is a noted feature of TCRFC that it’s a hard club to leave. I have no doubt that games will be hard fought and contested to the end, but when the final whistle blows we look forward to seeing you all the clubhouse afterwards for some relaxing refreshments.
I would like to congratulate our new Club Captain Michael Melia. This is a great honour for Michael and on behalf of all the members I wish him and his team the best of luck for their next campaign – I think we all believe the 1st squad can improve again this year and contest again at the top of the country’s highest division.
Of course I also wish the best of luck to our other teams, from the J1’s all the way down to our new U6’s. Terenure is one of the best community rugby clubs in the country, and seeing all the families support all our teams from adult to minis is one of the best things about our club. So, to the teams, their supporters and their families – I wish you all an injury free season & I look forward to seeing you all throughout the year. While all the players & supporters are of the upmost importance, none of the teams would function as they do without all the coaches and managers, so I would also like to thank them for their time and wish them well this year.
Terenure College Rugby Football Club is a truly amateur environment, where all the members support each other for the love of the game. None of this would be enough if we didn’t have our sponsors, whose generous support allows us provide the first-class facilities we have for our members and friends. With that in mind I would like to thank our new Main Club sponsor H&K International, with a particular thanks to David Bobbett and his colleagues for their continued support. H&K International have come on board in a new 3-year agreement to sponsor our 1st squad, and we thank them for everything they have done. We look forward to building on our close friendship with H&K for the coming seasons.
I would also like to welcome Sherry Fitzgerald Lettings who, join their colleagues from Sherry Fitzgerald Residential in a new sponsorship capacity. We are delighted to broaden our partnership with Sherry Fitzgerald, and we look forward to building our relationship for the mutual benefit of both parties.
In addition to the above, I would like to thank our numerous other sponsors who support our club through hoardings, yearbook, mini-calendar, mini-tours, functions, U13’s Festival, and many others. I would like to offer a particular thanks to Gant & Louis Copeland, Masseys, Diatec Digital & CIS Ireland for their continued support.
As we all know, clubs don’t just run themselves. Our club is blessed to have a strong base of volunteers. Their work is the foundation on which everything else is built. I thank them all for their selfless commitment, helping our club be the best that it can be. Of course, “if you don’t innovate, you die” and our Club is the proof of this. Many members are surprised to learn it was 2010 when we held our innovative Vision 2020 meetings. We have achieved a lot in that time, but it is now time to go again. With that in mind I have asked Sandy Dunlop and his team to reinvigorate our club with a new Vision 2030 series of meetings. We have started planning and will communicate details to our members as soon as possible.
As I said at the outset of this message, it is a privilege and an honour for me and my family to hold the position of President of the Club for the season 2018/2019. I thank my family for all the support they have given me over the past few years. They have all done a lot in each of their own ways – and my Presidency is a reward for them too. My family and I look forward to meeting you all over the course of the season, and we wish you all well for what we hope is a season of fun and victory.
C’mon the Nure!
President, Terenure College R.F.C. 2018/19
