We have just three games this week, but it’s a terrible threesome, with huge games for the 1st, 2nd and 6th XVs. All three face into the weekend knowing that these fixtures could decide their season to a large extent, and all three need your support.
The 1st XV travel to the Belfield Bowl on Saturday, with an earlier than normal kick off time of 14.00. After their late heroics against Belvo the last time out, they know that a win over UCD could – could – propel them to safety. The lads have been in flying form since Christmas, with just one blot on the copybook, but the students scored a massive win over Mary’s in their last game so will be full of confidence. As always, this one will be almost impossible to call. Not only will the home XV be difficult to predict, with Leinster in action at the same time, but games between these two sides are rarely settled by more than a score. The early season clash in Lakelands swung more than a pendulum, and this week should be no different.
Also on Saturday, the 6th XV head out to Estuary Road to face Malahide in Division 10. Les Devlin’s men need a win to cement a place in in the playoff final, and face a Malahide team that are tougher than old boots – so please do your best to head out the M50 and cheer them on!
Finally, on Sunday, we have a final to look forward to! The 2nd XV are seeking to win the Metro Division 1 title for the third year running, and face an Old Belvedere side in Lakelands for the crown. The scores lie one win apiece after the regular season, so this should be a close game between two excellent sides. Three titles in a row would be an astonishing achievement – so come down and roar the lads on! KO in Lakelands is 15.00
