President’s Welcome

It is both an honour and a privilege as your President for the 2017/18 Season to extend a warm “Nure welcome to fellow members, friends, guests, visiting teams and match officials’ to Lakelands for what I hope will be a successful year for all of our teams from Under 6’s through to our 1st Team.

Terenure College Rugby Football Club has a proud history and tradition of making lifelong friends, developing the sporting abilities of its playing fraternity at all levels and having fun. It is 37 years since I first walked up the lane, a stranger and was welcomed into the Nure family. I have made lifelong friendships and shared many experiences, including the odd game of rugby. I never envisaged back then that one day I would be bestowed with the great honour of being your Club President. I will endeavour to represent you and our Club with integrity, pride and vigour during my term as President and I thank you most sincerely for placing your trust in me.

To our Club Captain Robbie Smyth and his 1st Team squad, Senior Coaches James Blaney and Conor Gildea and Management Team of Sean O’Mahony and Michael Smith, I extend my best wishes for the 2017/18 season.

I also wish our Under 20’s, Junior, Youth and Mini teams and the numerous coaches, management and volunteers every success for the season ahead. Their dedication and commitment ensures that Terenure College Rugby Football Club continues to be a vibrant and exciting Club to be a member of.

Sponsors are a vital lifeline for community Clubs such as ours. Their steadfast and consistent support for many years is valued and appreciated by all of our members. BOC Gases continue as our main Club sponsor, their support over the last 20 years has been invaluable. I am delighted to report that Sherry Fitzgerald have agreed a new 4 year deal to sponsor our Under 20’s and Terenure Tigers. It gives me great pleasure to welcome H&K International as the new sponsor of our vibrant Mini Section, while continuing to sponsor the back of our 1st Team jersey. David Bobbet has supported the Club in numerous ways over the years and we remain deeply grateful for his continued support.

In addition to our main sponsors, we are deeply appreciative of our numerous hoarding advertisers including Ulster Bank, Airton Kia, Gant and Masseys whose unequivocal support enables us to provide all of our players and visiting teams with first class facilities.

I would like to sincerely acknowledge and thank the work and service of our unsung heroes, the numerous volunteers throughout the Club who continue to give generously of their personal time in the organisation and efficient running of the Club’s activities. The Club Officers, main and sub-committee members, social event organisers, Club shop management, carpark attendants and many more besides, selflessly give service to your Club in all its manifestations for your enjoyment. I call on any member who can, to volunteer and help lighten the load.

Rugby is what draws us to Lakelands, but also to the many other venues around the country in support of our numerous teams be they 1st, J1’s, U20’s, J2 to J6, Youth and Mini’s and not forgetting our Terenure Tigers. I have met the majority of the players, coaches and management and I am struck by their preparation, vitality, positivity, fortitude and dedication to make this season one to remember. In a line from our victory song I encourage each team to …. forge our own tradition and bring the Cup to Terenure”!

I wish all of our players an injury free season and I look forward to seeing you all throughout the year.

Tom Moloney,

President, Terenure College R.F.C. 2017/18
