We have a full schedule this week, after last week’s rest for most of our sides.
The 1st XV make the long trip to Cork Con on Saturday, hoping to get their season up and running against a Cork side that has won their last two games and seem in excellent form. No doubt our lads will be hurting still after Saturday’s late loss to Mary’s, but they can surely take heart from the fact that they have come so close in three of their defeats so far. Those bonus points could be vital, and show that we are not far away from our best form.
The 2nds welcome a strong Tarf side to Lakelands on Sunday, in a Division 1 fixture that sees 2nd play 4th. Only a single point separates these two sides, so a cracking game is in store. At the same time, the 3rds make the journey to Meath to take on Navan, with both sides looking for a win to propel them up the table. Our lads came desperately close in a thrilling draw against Bective last time, and will hope to carry that form into Sunday’s game.
The 4th XV kick off the weekend, hosting Clontarf in Lakelands in our Friday Night Lights match this week. Tarf are four from four so far this season, but our side has shown great promise, especially as they have effectively jumped from Division 8 to Division 5 this year. An exciting match is on the cards. The 6th XV have a Saturday afternoon fixture against bottom side DLSP, but the visitors’ lowly position is clouded somewhat by a four point deduction. If they hadn’t conceded that walkover, and been docked the points, they would sit in 5th spot, so our lads must be on top of their form.
The 20s finish off the weekend, taking on Navan in Lakelands on Saturday. Both of these sides have one win to their names, but our performances so far this season have seen us pick up four bonus points, again showing that we are very close to some excellent wins.
Don’t forget that the Ireland New Zealand match will be shown live in the club on Saturday evening!
