It’s another mammoth weekend for Terenure, with every side in the club in action over the next couple of days. They’re all cracking fixtures too, with the 1st v 2nd in AIL Division 1B, and 1st v 2nd in the JP Fanagan Super Six the pick of the bunch. The Metro leagues have thrown up a couple of belters too, with every side placing their own importance on their games.
The game of the weekend is possible the top of the table AIL clash between the 1st XV and Corinthians in Galway. Three points ahead by virtue of our bonus points, the lads travel west to face one of only two sides to defeat us this calendar year. In Cloonacauneen last season, Nure didn’t put in their best performance, but Conor Gildea’s late kick earned us a vital bonus point – the difference that put us top of the pile in May. This game is certain to be just as close, with both sides unbeaten in the league so far. Indeed, the IRFU have picked it as their Match of the Day, and with the ground less than a couple of hours away, there’s no excuse to miss out on this epic.
The Metro leagues are packed this week too, with the 2nd XV taking on table-toppers and local rivals Mary’s on Sunday. The 2nds had a huge win last week, and will be looking to build on this momentum. Kick off in Lakelands is at the earlier December kick off time of 2pm.
The 3rds, meanwhile, welcome Rathdrum to Lakelands, also on Sunday. Beaten in Wicklow on the first day of the season, the lads will be looking for revenge. This is a fourth against fifth battle, so it’s guaranteed to be close.
On Saturday, we’ve three junior sides in action, with the 4th XV facing Monkstown at home. Joint top of the table, the lads will be hoping that Tarf slip up away to Guinness, but a win at home to Monkstown is the most important thing.
The 5th XV travel to Belfield to face UCD on Saturday. The last couple of weeks have shown a huge improvement in performance, and it’s only a matter of time before this translates to results. Kick off is 2.30pm. Finally on Saturday, the high flying 6th XV face Bective at home at 2.30pm. Bective suffered a big loss last week at the hands of Clontarf, so will be sure to bounce back. Our lads will be looking to dislodge Railway Union from the top of the league with a win, and this should be another belter.
Last but certainly not least, to Belfield on Sunday, and the U20s second game in the JP Fanagan Super Six. UCD, the perennial favourites for this competition, strolled through the first phase, but were only marginal victors over fellow students Trinity last time out. Our lads, fresh from a week’s break after their hammering of Blackrock, will be looking to put one over the students, but will need all the help they can get. Make sure to get out to Belfield early, with kick off on Sunday at 2.30pm.
