THE ULTIMATE RUGBY EVENT FOR U13s IN IRELAND

Introduction:
If you’re looking to make this season one to remember, then look no further. Terenure College RFC is delighted to announce the inauguralUnder 13’s European Youth Tournament– a new Under 13’s rugby festival, which aims to become one of the most prestigious of its kind in Europe.

Overview:
Now, teams from all over Europe have the opportunity to include Ireland on their rugby tour itinerary, at the fantastic Terenure College RFC location – one of Ireland’s best-known rugby clubs, and the adjoining Terenure CollegeSchool, which boasts among the most significant rugby facilitiesof any school throughout the country.

The Tournament is a professionally organisedtwo-dayevent that brings teams from all over Europe together for a fantastic weekend of rugby. Every aspect of the game, its safety and ethos will be upheld to the highest standards and the Tournament will be organised in accordance with the Age Grade Rules and Regulations of the IRFU.

Benefits of participation:
Going on tour provides a rare and exciting opportunity for players, coaches and supporters to hone their talents, build team morale and develop friendships that last a lifetime. Participating teams will have the opportunity to compete against teams from different parts of Europe, thus allowing them to embrace different languages, cultures and styles of rugby first hand.

 Competition format:
In all, at least 20 teams are expected to compete. The group stages of the competition will take place on Saturday 12^th May, with 5 pools of 4 teams, with the final group standings determining whether teams go on to compete in the Quarter Finals of the Cup or Plate on the following day, Sunday 13^th May. In addition, all players will have the opportunity to participate in specialist skills sessions with professional coaches and players from the Terenure College RFC Senior’s squad.

Entertainment:
As you would expect, the entertainment aspect of the weekend is top class, with a variety of activities and events to suit all tastes. Following registration on Friday evening, 11^th May, all teams, coaches and supporters will be treated to an unforgettable mini “Riverdance” show, featuring a selection of top class dancers. Who knows, you may even feel the urge to join in, and become the next Michael Flatley?

On Saturday, 12^th May, midway during the rugby tournament, there will be an exhibition Gaelic Football game, with high-class local teams competing. This is a great opportunity, particularly for overseas visitors, to see first hand Ireland’s traditional sporting heritage.

Later that night, all visitors will have the opportunity to attend a major musical event, with Irish show band legend, Dickie Rock taking to the stage, followed by disco till late.

Throughout the festival, we expect many sporting celebrities and political dignitaries to lend their support, in particular former international players associated with the club, Dublin’s Lord Mayor, as well as other local politicians, and TV personalities, including RTE’s rugby pundit George Hook, who will present prizes to the winning Plate and Cup teams on Sunday, 13^th May.

Catering Facilities:
The rugby site will featureample catering facilities, in the form of food tents, stalls and the club’s own bar and catering facilities. Practically all tastes will be catered for, from snacks, burgers, pizza and confectionery; to soft drinks, beers and wine. The event is supported by local shops, restaurants and pubs in the Terenure area, all part of the “I Love Terenure” group, and those not represented at the rugby site, are only a 10 minute walk away, particularly if you are after a more extensive or ethnic food offer, such as Italian, Indian, Thai or Chinese, or just a hearty steak house or local pub – and there are lots of the latter!

Accommodation:
While the organisers do not provide accommodation directly for visiting teams, they will be only too happy to assist any team or travelling group in this regard. Terenure is very well located, within 5 kilometres of Dublin’s city centre, and as such close to any accommodation requirement. For those on a tight budget, there are several large hostels recommended, with prices less than €10 per person per night.

Some teams may prefer the cultural exchange aspect of the trip, and parents of Terenure’s own Under 13’s squad have kindly offered to accommodate visiting players free of charge.

Of course there are lots of budget and more luxurious hotel options available locally too, whatever the requirement. Please call us if you would like a specific recommendation (??) (or please see our web site for further recommendations??).

 Booking:

Although, only in its inaugural year, interest in the Terenure College RFC Under 13’s European Youth Tournament is significant! There are still some places available, but please call now to check availability and to confirm your team’s place. Most importantly, there is no entry fee, however, we insist all teams pay a fully refundable booking deposit of €250 to reserve their place in the tournament. This will be refunded at registration.
