2nds 39-15 Clontarf
Another strong performance by the second team in the Metro League Division 1 last Saturday saw Clontarf defeated by 39 points to 15 in their new all weather pitch in Castle Avenue. Tries were scored by Willie Devane, Captain Niall Lalor, Harry Moore, Ferdia O’Brien,Stephen Lowe and Niall Thornton with Ferdia O’Brien kicking 3 conversions and a penalty. The game was notable as the first occasion in which the three Thornton brothers, James, Niall and Paddy have played together on the same team for Terenure. The 2nds are now 10 points ahead in the league table after 9 matches.
6th XV 10-13 Clontarf
The 6ths fell agonisingly short in Castle Avenue in an early kick off on Saturday, losing 13-10. In miserable conditions, our lads took a 10-5 lead into the break following an excellently worked move off a scrum that saw outhalf Nippy Kinsella score under the posts. However, soon after the break, lady luck deserted us, with two questionable yellow cards and a raft of injuries (including centre Shane Sharkey, whose horrific screams alerted several ambulances in the area – we hope his mild hamstring twinge doesn’t affect his Christmas too badly!) meant we had to reshuffle drastically.
During this period, Tarf scored 8 points to take the lead, and despite some heroic defending, we were unable to close the one-score gap. Despite the disappointment, the lads still took home a vital losing bonus point from the league leaders, and will be in the mix for the playoffs on this showing. Judging by the tales coming out of their Christmas party, it’s a good thing they have a few weeks off now!
