It was a weekend of close games, as only the 6th XV – afforded a walkover by DLSP – had things easy. The 1st XV had a tough day out in Templeville, with the local bragging rights going the way of St Mary’s after a 20-13 win for the home side. Their greater power up front set the foundations for a three tries to two win, on a day when Nure struggled to get any momentum going. They will be disappointed to lose the derby of course, but a last gasp try from Conor Weakliam at least gives them a losing bonus point to stay ahead of Old Belvedere by a nose. The 2nds had another good win over Clontarf to keep pace with UCD at the top of Division 1, with only one round of games to go before the playoffs. The 3rds were narrowly beaten in an arm wrestle of a game in Lakelands, with a late late shot at goal agonisingly off target in a 13-15 loss. The two losing bonus points they secured have lifted them out of the relegation spots however, and they go into the last game of the league campaign with their fate in their own hands.
The 6th XV were given a week off after DLSP conceded, and now play Clondalkin on Saturday in a winner-takes-all battle for home advantage in the playoffs. The 20s, meanwhile, put in a superb performance in defeat, losing in Belfield by only two points to UCD.
