Friends, the sun is setting on my Presidency, it has come full circle and now I must past the Blazer on.

Before I do so, I wish to express my appreciation to my exceptional wife Jean. It is simply not possible to do this role and dedicate the time and effort without someone there to support you, congratulate you and commiserate with you during a season.

To my main committee, guys, there is no “I” in team. We worked and performed as a team with great results, a sincere thank you. A number of you are stepping aside for a well-earned rest; Pat Jordan – Hon Sec, Brian Colgan – Chairman of Rugby, Mark Hamilton and the awesome Mags Maguire; our Club is indebted to you for your dedication and commitment. To our Chairman Michael Roche, I thank you also for your time and efforts over the last four years.

To the numerous Club Volunteers across every aspect of the Club, be they involved in rugby – Minis to Seniors, Club House, Grounds, Shop and Events, particularly our International U13s Festival – these are guys who work quietly and diligently behind the scenes and give unselfishly of their personal time for the greater good of the Club, a sincere thanks also!

To our Club Captain, Robbie Smyth, Robbie I was honoured to have you as Club Captain in my year. You represented our Club with pride and spirit, upheld our traditions and values and were an inspirational leader and you should be proud of what you and your squad achieved. Thank you. I also wish to thank James Blaney, Conor Gildea, Pete Shaw, Richie and Morley, Sean O’Mahony, Mick Smith, Mark Hamilton, Chris Byrne and Darren Holmes.

To the team captains, coaches and management of our 2nds, U20s, 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, 6ths, U17s and our very vibrant Minis – whose U11s delivered the 1st piece of silverware in my year. The U20s retained the Gerry Olin Memorial Trophy, our 1st XV brought the Mick Smyth Trophy home, my Carlsberg weekend of the U17s Shield, 5ths League and topped off by our 2nds winning the Metro Cup. Guys, a sincere thank you for some enjoyable and memorable rugby.

Congratulations and thanks to all players who donned the Purple, Black and White and represented our Club with honour, pride and spirit – I enjoyed the numerous games I watched and was always proud of your performance regardless of the result on the day.

To our Club sponsors and advertisers, clubs like Nure cannot provide the first class training and playing facilities without your generous support.

To our main sponsor BOC Gases, who have supported our Club for twenty years are now stepping back. On behalf of every member I wish to extend a heartfelt and sincere THANK YOU for your generosity and wish to assure you that you will always be welcome in Lakelands and we wish you every success for the future.

I wish to thank Lee our bar manager, who put in some year, not just in ensuring our glasses were full, but successfully running 3 major events, where we hosted 660 for lunch against Mary’s, 420 in the semi-final against Con and our hugely successful Under 13’s International festival and this is not to mention our sold out pre-match lunches, annual dinner, etc. etc. Lee, Noel, Owen, Laura, Philly, and the rest of your crew a sincere thank you.

Friends, I am humbled and honoured to have been your President. Your support, encouragement and assistance has made my year one I will never forget. I have had an awesome year both on and off the pitch and I will remain indebted to you all for according me the privilege.

Sincerely,

Tom Moloney
